Nigerian citizen dies in Jellicoe Street – police brutality insinuated

Nigerian nationals have gathered in front of the house in Jellicoe Street where his body remains.

A Nigerian citizen has succumbed after allegations were made that he was assaulted and suffocated by police members.
The man was arrested on Friday, October 2 on an alleged drug charge.
The victim appeared in Witbank Magistrate’s Court and was released on bail on Monday, October 5.

He returned to his home and apparently told his roommates that he was assaulted by the police.
On Wednesday morning, October 7 the man passed away at his house.

Nigerian nationals have gathered in front of the house in Jellicoe Street where his body remains.

The street has been blocked off and by the afternoon the situation was tense as the people demanded answers.
The public is urged to use alternative roads and stay clear until the scene has been cleared up.
Capt Eddie Hall, spokesperson from Witbank Police Station confirmed that they are aware of the situation. “The circumstances of the allegations will be thoroughly investigated,” he said.
