Robbed of cash at ATM in Extension 16

Once the suspects had the money in hand, they ran away

Many people still deposit money at the Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) as it is easier than running into the bank and doing so.

On Monday, September 7 at 14:00 Mr Botedswa Darling went to Extension 16 to deposit cash at the ATM outside the bank premises.

He alleged that he parked his car and walked towards the ATM when he was approached by the unknown men at the ATM.

The unknown men were armed with firearms; they pointed the gun at Darling and told him to hand over the money.

Without hesitation, Darling handed over an undisclosed amount of money.

Once the suspects had the money in hand, they ran away.

A couple of safety tips of depositing money at an ATM:

When depositing a large sum of money always be on the lookout for an ATM in a safe neighbourhood and where there is security personnel located at the ATM.

Also make sure your money is ready for a deposit before you get to the ATM so that you don’t fumble with the cash at the ATM, this will just put you at more risk if you have to sort out the money standing in the open.
