Khulanathi Community Development set on developing the city

The organisation is currently expanding to various areas in Ackerville, Lynnville, Thushanang, Schoongezicht (Overline) and KwaGuqa Extensions

An organisation calling itself Khulanathi Community Development (KCD) ‘Let’s grow together’ has set itself to develop the community of eMalahleni.

The organisation is a community-based organisation with the aim of assisting the local municipalities on service delivery through road infrastructure rehabilitation and reviving the township.

It comprises of various cooperatives and wards around the townships.

KCD was established and founded by seven young members on July 18 this year and was born under Khulasande Peoples Forum.

The organisation is currently expanding to various areas in Ackerville, Lynnville, Thushanang, Schoongezicht (Overline) and KwaGuqa Extensions.

The organisation is planning to expand to other areas around Nkangala, and they plan to create more job opportunities and skills development and purchase manufacturing plants.

KCD presented a memorandum at the Mpumalanga Department of Settlement, Office of the Premier, Nkangala District Municipality and the Emalahleni Local Municipality.

They said they have decided to partake and intervene in the matter regarding the allocation and the distribution of houses at Siyanqoba.

They have also decided to assist community members in acquiring RDP houses in a good manner, and they are planning to do that peacefully.

Khulanathi Community Development members at Siyanqoba stand in different groups as they discuss issues of housing allocation in the area.

“The failure of the department to assist the whistleblowers and hold corrupt councillors and municipal officials accountable for the mismanagement in handling the housing allocation has led us as a concerned community development forum to take a stand in assisting and making sure that the rightful beneficiaries in our community receive those RDP houses. We have set up a vagarious identification and screening process in a three-stage form to ensure locally born beneficiaries receive the forever elusive houses due to the community. We will also camp at the new houses and to be registered as the new beneficiaries of the housing projects at Siyanqoba,” said Mr Given Shabangu spokesperson of the organisation.

The organisation further said that community members have been struggling to obtain RDP houses at Klarinet and now at Siyanqoba even though they have registered at the local municipality database.

They demanded that the municipality give them a full report on the last housing allocation and the names of the beneficiaries as they suspect that some houses have been allegedly sold by councillors and municipality officials.

They want the municipality to advise the council and the office of the mayor about the raised issues.

The organisation also want the municipality to restart the programme of allocations of houses without further delay to the benefit of the community of eMalahleni.

KCD has promised that failure by all the government departments and municipalities to meet their demands in 14 days will embark on a total shutdown of Emalahleni Local Municipality, and they will also picket near the building housing the municipality.
