HAWKS take over CIT heist case

The carefully planned heist included three vehicles

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the HAWKS has taken over the cash-in-transit heist investigation.

The heist took place in OR Tambo Road on Thursday, August 27 shortly after the cash van left the depot.

The carefully planned heist included three vehicles.
 
One was used to crash into the police vehicle that was escorting the cash van and one was used to crash into the cash van itself.

Only two people were injured during the heist.
 
Mr Kobus Smit was tended to by ER24 on the scene and the policeman who was assaulted by some of the robbers was taken to hospital and discharged the same day.
