Well-known teacher taking charge at Witbank Christian Academy

Witbank Christian Academy is known for their one-on-one focus with the learners and has followed all safety regulations to keep them safe since the re-opening of the school

Experience is often known as a great teacher because with experience comes great knowledge and with well-known teacher, Mr Pieter Zeelie (63) comes a great deal of experience.

Mr Zeelie the newly appointed principal of Witbank Christian Academy.

He started teaching at Piet Retief Hoërskool in 1981, he then moved on to WH de Klerk in eMalahleni in 1985 and then to Laerskool Klipfontein  in 1989.

He then spent two years in Newcastle teaching at Hutten Park Primary School before starting at Laerskool Kragbron in 1991.

In his 28 years at Kragbron Mr Zeelie was Head of Department, then Deputy Principal before becoming Active Headmaster.

At the end of last year, he decided it was time to retire, but that was not to be… Mr Zeelie was approached by a pastor from Neo Doxa Church to be the new principal at Witbank Christian Academy which he accepted as he felt this is a Godly calling for him and he was excited to give back to Witbank Christian Academy in a Godly manner.

“Education is a calling in my personal view, a happy child will have a happy parent and you will have to focus on both,” Mr Zeelie said.

Since starting at Witbank Christian Academy Mr Zeelie struggled to adjust because it was his first experience working at a private school but settled in quickly with the help of the team at Witbank Christian Academy and Neo Doxa church.

“The staff at Witbank Christian Academy and the team from Neo Doxa supported me from the beginning and helped me adjust to being the principal of a private school. As we approached the Covid-19 pandemic I knew it was going to be challenging,” said Mr Zeelie.

The lockdown had a major impact on the school but Mr Zeelie and his team are positive about the future at Witbank Christian Academy despite the coronavirus.

Witbank Christian Academy is known for their one-on-one focus with the learners and has followed all safety regulations to keep them safe since the re-opening of the school.

A majority of the learners was up to date with their schoolwork provided for them to do at home during the lockdown and Witbank Christian Academy is hard at work to make sure all learners receive the attention they deserve to obtain great marks.

Mr Zeelie and his team also try and keep the children positive during the Covid-19 pandemic by hosting an online talent competition, a spelling bee and more.

Mr Zeelie said, “It is important to keep the children positive and driven during this time and we want to do this in a fun but educational way”.
