Bidi finishes his first big race

Bidi who is blind, completed a 10km race in one hour and seven minutes and earned himself a virtual medal

On to the next challenge for Jan ‘Bidi’ Barrett and his guide runner Arthur Smith.

On Monday, August 10 Bidi achieved another milestone in his life by competing in the virtual annual Greatest Train Race event.

Bidi who is blind, completed a 10km race in one hour and seven minutes and earned himself a virtual medal.

Arthur Smith who ran next to Bidi as his guide through the course said: “Bidi completed the event without effort and was well prepared. He enjoyed the support from fellow runners on the same route”.

Bidi is known to be a very humble person and is not afraid of challenges thrown to him and said: “It feels like a major accomplishment but this was only a 10km race. All thanks go to uncle Arthur, my mentor and trainer who prepared me for this race and glory to God who played the biggest role. At one stage the race felt long but God again gave me the strength to finish the race”.

Bidi and Arthur are also taking this race as preparation for a 21km half marathon at Loskop in April 2021.
