Labour of love as Bonginsimbi received renovated classrooms

“We are now a family and we hope the relationship will last for ever because together we can do more.”

It was celebration all the way even though under restrictions when Bonginsimbi Comprehensive School officially handed over renovated classrooms.

The handover ceremony was held on Thursday, June 30. This came after a request from the school to Eskom Duvha Power Station who in turn passed to their partners Southey Contracting. The school had requested renovations of their abandoned classrooms and toilets to accommodate Grades 8 and 9 learners who were being transferred from feeder schools in the area.

The ball started rolling between the stakeholders, the school governing body, the Department of Education, Eskom Duvha Power Station and Southey Contracting. Work got underway in earnest with the project completed in June. The complete project of nine classrooms, seven toilets for both girls and boys and offices. In addition, these facilities have been completed kitted out with school furniture for both pupils and teachers as well as class whiteboards.

Ms Beauty Mncina, school principal thanked the companies for the work done at the school. She also mentioned that the school has maintained high passing marks because of the dedication of the teachers and the learners and was hopefully that with this kind of support and assistance they will always aim to keep the standard high.

Mr Douglas Maja representing the Department of Education also thanked the companies for the partnership with government. He maintained that government cannot do it alone. He added to say that government was faced with many challenges especially with rural schools which need a lot of improvement. He said sponsors helped to develop learners to learn in a better environment to be prepared for the future. Mr Maja also thanked Siviwe Mapise, the contractor for a good job done and hopes that he will be used in the future.

Mr Sam Mashao representing Eskom said they’re proud to be associated with the project as they were investing in local communities and in turn investing in future leaders.

Mr John Humby representing Southey Contracting said the company was dedicated to education and were privileged to be partners to a common goal.

“Through a common goal we managed to achieve a labour of love to help learners to benefit for their future. We always employ local communities and now we are investing in their children’s lives. We have also sponsored a school in Kendal and we will continue to do that when called. We are building relationships in our communities.”

Cllr Derrick Skosana represented the executive mayor.
