The man was taken to a clinic to receive medical attention

A man was rescued by police officials after Siyabonga Section community members in Phola gathered to beat the man after he allegedly stole R500.

Two officers removed the man from the angry community on Saturday, June 6, at about 09:00.

The man was taken to a clinic to receive medical attention.

A case of assault was opened by the police on behalf of the man.

According to a media statement produced by the office of Phola station commander on Friday, June 12, no arrests have been made thus far pending investigations.

The statement also states that on the same morning at about 09:30, a woman opened a theft case against the victim beaten by the community.

She alleged that earlier the same morning at about 06:05, a man entered her house and took her R500.

She further alleged that when the man noticed that the complainant is approaching him, he pushed her and ran away but she managed to scream and cry for help.

The neighbours heard the scream, gave chase to the suspect and caught him.

Thereafter, mob justice commenced until the police came to the rescue.
