Arguments allegedly lead to murder in Vosman

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, has strongly condemned the murder of yet another woman.

The frustration with the endless lockdown goes along with violence and other related crimes, especially towards the most vulnerable: women and children as the brutality of these crimes hikes daily.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, has strongly condemned the murder of yet another woman.

The 25-year old victim was allegedly killed by a 35-year man she was staying with.

The incident took place at Vosman in the early hours of May 16.

According to information, an argument broke out between the couple and moments later the man allegedly started assaulting and strangling the woman, with all the commotion the suspected assaulter’s uncle rushed to their room. He intended to intervene but unfortunately found the victim lying motionless. He then alerted the neighbours who in turn notified police and medical personnel. The woman was certified dead at the scene and police immediately arrested the man.

He was expected to appear at Witbank Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of murder.

In another incident that also occurred in Vosman on May 14, it is alleged that an 18-year old was raped by a 31-year old man that is believed to be her friend.

The report indicates that an argument broke out between the two where the man then apparently assaulted and raped the victim.

The matter was reported to the police who opened a case of rape. The suspect has since been arrested and is also expected to appear at Witbank Magistrate’s Court.

The Provincial Commissioner has strongly condemned both incidents.

He has once again called on society to stand up against Gender-Based-Violence.

General Zuma indicated that it seems as if the plight of women is rapidly increasing regardless of the efforts made by the government to curb the scourge.

“Our courts continue to impose harsher sentences but despite this, perpetrators of Gender-Based-Violence continue to prey on vulnerable women and children. This situation cannot continue like this and it shows an underlying problem of moral decay in our society,” General Zuma concluded.
