MEC for Health in Mpumalanga screens travellers for Covid-19 at Middelburg Toll Paza

The MEC for Health in Mpumalanga Sasekani Manzini and a team of health professionals screened travellers for the Covid-19 virus at Middelburg Toll Plaza on Thursday morning.

The toll plaza was not as busy as expected. There was an expectation that people will try to get home before the national lockdown from midnight tonight, March 26 until April 16.

This is key because Gauteng and the Western Cape dominate the Covid-19 numbers.

Only eight cases have been reported in Mpumalanga so far.

Manzini reiterated that the most effective way to prevent infection is through basic changes in individual behaviour and hygiene.

“Wash your hands frequently with hand sanitiser or soap and water for at least 20 seconds, cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with a tissue or flexed elbow and avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms,” she said.

David Majid underwent a voluntary Covid-19 screening at Middelburg Toll Plaza on March 26. Testing him is the MEC for Health in Mpumalanga Sasekani Manzini.
