Witbank Police are investigating a case of stock theft after six suspects were arrested on a public road in Duvha Park at around 17:00, on Friday, March 6.
The incident occurred when police were patrolling the road after they pulled over two motor vehicles, a Corolla and a bakkie, and requested to search the occupants of each car including the drivers.
The stolen meat was found in the boot of the car.
The suspects failed to provide proof to show that they bought the meat.
Witbank Police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall said they discovered that these suspects who appeared in Witbank Magistrates Court on Monday, March 9 were involved in a syndicate of stock thefts and sold their meat.
“Five of the suspects are from KwaZulu-Natal and the other from Ogies. They stole three Bonsmara cows; some of the meat (intestines) was already sold. We found the head in the Corolla vehicle and the bakkie carried the rest of the meat. We are still investigating where the stolen stock comes from.”
The suspects remain in custody and will again appear in Witbank Magistrate Court on Monday, March 16.
