IPID investigates shooting incident in eMalahleni involving local cop

According to the young man’s father, Mr Emmanuel Themba Salinga his son was shot in the back

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating a shooting incident involving a local policeman.

The shooting that happened on the weekend claiming the life of 18-year-old Sibusiso Salinga.

According to the young man’s father, Mr Emmanuel Themba Salinga his son was shot in the back.

Salinga told WITBANK NEWS that his son took his grandmother’s car without permission and drove around. Upon his return to eMalahleni, he noticed a roadblock, made a u-turn and sped off.

Police, on the look-out for kidnappers that dumped a 57-year-old woman’s body at the Merrriedale turn-off, chased after Salinga.

When they heard what they believed was a gunshot they returned fire and fatally wounded the man.

The policeman has not been arrested. The outcome of this case rests on the investigation done by IPID.
