It is shut down now

The new group was protesting to carry on with their studies and for the protest to end

Students at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) eMalahleni campus are protesting at the campus and refusing to study due to the alleged lack of equal distribution of funds to students at different accredited and leased student accommodations in eMalahleni, as reported previously by WITBANK NEWS.

The Student Representative Council members, who wished to remain anonymous, told WITBANK NEWS on Wednesday, February 12, that the students gathered outside the campus to protest against the alleged corruption and tear down a division of TUT.

“The TUT Enterprise Holding listed five student residences in eMalahleni. The university is currently recognising two residences, which only students who stay in those two residences received an allocation of their allowances of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). We raised the issue and only a few students from the other three residences got their allowances. We want equal benefits for every student at all five residences.”

They added: “The enterprise holding is now controlling the allocations from NSFAS. We want to end that corruption.”

Two groups emerged on Wednesday morning, as also reported previously by WITBANK NEWS.

The new group was protesting to carry on with their studies and for the protest to end.

The Witbank police were also monitoring the situation and have vehicles patrolling in France Quass Avenue where the students were gathered.

WITBANK NEWS is in communication with TUT’s corporate channels manager, Ms Willa de Ruyter, for a response about the protest action at the campus and allegations.
