Members of alleged vehicle theft syndicate caught while scouting for cars at shopping centre

Car theft has become a big deal over the years as new ways risen to break into a car and steal it.

On Friday, February 7 it is alleged that a security team picked up a suspicious vehicle that was driving up and down in the parking area of a shopping centre scouting for cars.

In the vehicle were three males; the car was searched and the police found ‘jammers’, hand radios and items that are used to break into vehicles and items used for vehicle theft.

The three males were arrested for conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of equipment reasonably to be used for vehicle break-ins and theft.

Further investigation showed they are a syndicate from Vosloorus in Boksburg that focusses on Toyota bakkies.

The car that was stopped by the police in Ben Fleur was also registered as a hired vehicle from Johannesburg.

All three suspects have appeared in court on Monday, February 10.

They remained in custody and the case is postponed until Monday, February 17.

The first suspect has the following outstanding cases: Possession of equipment reasonably thought to be used for vehicle break-ins and unable to justify possession and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The second suspect has the following cases outstanding: Carjacking, house robbery and in possession of presumed stolen vehicle.

The third suspect was previously charged in possession of the presumed stolen vehicle.
