Parents to stay closer to their children

In his welcome address to families, he said that the year 2020 should be a year of change and prosperity

Pastor Ignatius Mahlangu of Emalahleni Men of Destiny feels that parents need to be closer to their children all the time.

In his welcome address to families, he said that the year 2020 should be a year of change and prosperity.

“I want to remind men about their identity, role and responsibility both at home and within the community. As an organisation we urged parents, fathers and mothers to stay closer to their children and implement and each children how they should live and they will remember it all their lives,” pastor Mahlangu said.

Pastor Mahlangu said the first teacher of a child is a parent before children set their foot at school.

He also indicated that many things happened at schools last year in the country, like bullying, killing of learners and teachers and the misbehaving of learners towards their teachers.

He said both teachers and learners are not safe even at schools.

“The question is: How can we as parents be quite and fold our arms if we are concerned about the welfare of our children. We should not allow our children to fight with teachers because they will guide them into their future,” added pastor Mahlangu.

Mahlangu urged parents to be always closer to their children and form a good and strong relationship.

He said parents must also avoid domestic violence, vulgar language but to bring up children in a Christian way and instil discipline in them.

He added to say that parents must also build a good partnership with teachers.

“As Men of Destiny we want to start a programme called ‘Asikhulume Boys Programme’ in all schools in order to assist the fatherless boys in the community. We want also to teach girls about focusing on their studies and not to fall pregnant at a young age which contribute negatively to the society and increase the number of fatherless children,” concluded pastor Mahlangu.
