Witbank Hospital is getting more safety features

Mr Dumisani Malamule from the Department of Health said the process to install amongst others CCTV cameras and panic buttons have started

Witbank Hospital is on the MEC of Health’s priority list and she is delivering on her promise to make the hospital a safer entity.

The MEC, Ms Sasekani Manzini is beefing up security at the hospital after a shooting incident on November 16 when 30-year-old Mr Selvino Zumbha was fatally shot in a corridor in the hospital.

The MEC classified the hospital as a hotspot.

Mr Dumisani Malamule from the Department of Health said the process to install amongst others CCTV cameras and panic buttons have started.

Once the assessment is done, contractors will be appointed.

The MEC did identify the hospital as one of the hotspots in the province and the department is doing everything possible to make sure that security on the hospital premises receives urgent attention.

Malamule said all the healthcare professionals are back at work.

Mr Mzwandile Shongwe, Chairperson of the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) could not be reached for comment.
