All is calm in Rietspruit

The common message received is that paying residents are upset because the whole of Rietspruit was shut down

The front page article ‘Emalahleni is in trouble’ stirred a lot of emotions.

Residents in Rietspruit voiced their opinion on WITBANK NEWS’ Facebook page and 76 comments were received.

The common message received is that paying residents are upset because the whole of Rietspruit was shut down.

“Where is justice when you cut off those who have prepaid and those who pay their bills faithfully?” asked Mr Dumisani Mabuza.

Ms Hannah Spies shared this sentiment, “Who will pay for our hard earned food that will go down in our fridges and who will pay for the damage to geysers and fridges with these cuts? Why not cut where there is no payment? They will soon have to pay to get services.”

Ms Lungile Lubisi demanded a flat rate of R150.

It seems that all is calm in Rietspruit now after the community took to the streets earlier this month in protest of the municipality’s steps to cut bulk electricity to communities with a low payment rate.
