Family seeks answers after fatal shooting at hospital

No one has been arrested yet and police calls on anyone with information that can assist in apprehending the suspect(s)

A family is looking for answers after a fatal shooting this past weekend.

Mr Joe Zhumba said they are devastated by the death of his brother, Mr Selvino Zhumba, on Saturday, November 16 in a corridor in Witbank Hospital.

“We have no answers, only more and more questions every day. My brother was a good and hard-working man. We are talking about a family man who was loved by all around him.”

Zhumba, (34) had his own small little business selling used oil.

His wife is pregnant with their third child.

According to Brig Leonard Hlathi, provincial police spokesperson Zhumba was rushed to Witbank Hospital on November 13 after he was shot several times at his home in Kwa-Guqa.

“Reports indicate that the victim was admitted in hospital on Wednesday, November 13 at around 21:53 with gun shot wounds in his upper body. Our information is that on Saturday at about 18:45 the victim was in a hospital ward with other people when the suspect entered the ward. It is believed that the victim had recognised the man and immediately a scuffle ensued between them to a point where they reached the corridors of the ward. The suspect allegedly drew a pistol and shot the victim several times, then left the hospital,” Brig Hlathi said.

No one has been arrested yet and police calls on anyone with information that can assist in apprehending the suspect(s).
