Saving water starts with you

During the summit pipe bursts, water leakages and the non-payment of water services have been identified

There is a thin line between using water and wasting water, especially if you do not have enough to supply your community.

As part of the resolutions from the water summit which took place on September 4 and 5, a water conservation campaign will take place on October 24.

“The campaign is in joint effort with the Department of Water and Sanitation to bring to the public’s attention the various challenges Emalahleni is currently faced with in relation to water, and the importance of water conservation and water demand management in short WCWDM,” said Mr Lebo Mofokeng, municipal spokesperson.

During the summit pipe bursts, water leakages and the non-payment of water services have been identified as contributors to the high rate of non-revenue water.

“Water plays a crucial role in the socio-economic well-being of the environment, the economic development of eMalahleni and eradicating poverty. Safe and hygienic water and sanitation for the residents of eMalahleni continues to be a priority for the municipality,” Mofokeng said.

He said the desired outcome from the campaign is to educate residents in order to reduce non-revenue water, improve payment rates of water services, increase public cooperation on water supply and introduce effective WCWDM programs.
