Security vehicle driver found dead

Allegedly, two vehicles from a security company, a white Nissan Micra and a Silver Nissan Micra, were escorting the truck from Benoni on the N12

A security vehicle driver was found dead after a truck transporting cellphones was hijacked on the N12 between the Blesbokfontein off-ramp and Kendal/Balmoral off-ramp.

According to a media statement released by Phola SAPS communications officer, Thabang Ntuli, one of the victims fled the scene but was found dead later near the actual scene after the incident on Thursday, October 17 at about 05:10 in the morning.

Allegedly, two vehicles from a security company, a white Nissan Micra and a Silver Nissan Micra, were escorting the truck from Benoni on the N12.

“After passing the Petroport, they noticed two Audi vehicles with unknown registrations which abruptly opened fire on them. While driving, after passing the Blesbokfontein off-ramp, the silver Micra was shot in the right rear tyre. It lost control and came to a stand still near the road,” as is written on the statement.

Allegedly, four unknown males armed with rifles appeared and disarmed both the driver and passenger of the silver Micra.

The suspects also took their cellphones and a camera.

The white Nissan Micra and the truck were also forced to a stationery position just before the Kendal/Balmoral off-ramp.

“Several gun shots holes covered the Nissan Micra and both the driver and the passenger were also disarmed of their firearms. The driver managed to escape thereafter. He was later found deceased in the bushes not far from the actual scene. Both the truck driver and the passenger were forced into the two Audi vehicles and they drove away with them. “Apparently, the truck was dumped behind a shop just before the N4 and it was carrying 10 silver containers with cellphones in boxes. Two containers were cut and emptied and one was cut and left half empty. Only seven containers were left untouched and sealed.”

A case of hijacking has been opened at Phola Police Station and the police are investigating the matter.
