DBSA has two plans for water disaster

First is the reduction of water losses, looking at ways to assist municipalities who want to re-use their water and standardise solutions with the help of the Department of Water and Sanitation

Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) had some input and advice for the municipality in regards to their water crisis.

Mr Johan Luber from DBSA explained public-private partnership projects that can help with the water saga.

Luber explained two models, public, private partnership-model (PPP) and a private sector partnership-model (PSP).

DBSA is working with the PSP model.

DBSA has current and future water initiatives.

First is the reduction of water losses, looking at ways to assist municipalities who want to re-use their water and standardise solutions with the help of the Department of Water and Sanitation.

In all the initiatives they trying to see how they can involve the private sector as the government cannot do it alone.

He alluded that the payment of services is a challenge as people think the water is free, forgetting that the infrastructure and bringing the water is costly, therefore there is a need for cost-reflective tariffs.
