Thousands of Rands were spent way too conveniently and a suspect was arrested for numerous charges after living a ‘high life’.

The suspect was arrested on Friday, September 6 by the Hawks following a tip-off from the Department of Home Affairs which had been investigating his legal status in South Africa.

He wanted to bribe the official with R100 000, the amount paid on Friday was a deposit and the rest of the money was going to be paid once the investigation was closed.

Money that was allegedly used to bribe a Home Affairs official.

He is facing charges of fraud, corruption, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the Contravention of the Immigration Act, 13 of 2002.

The Department of Home Affairs confirmed that eyebrows were raised after activities at the Durban July, followed by investigations to verify his citizenship.

They also said that he acquired his identification through fraud and misrepresentation, as he had numerous smart identity cards.

The case was opened at Witbank Police Station and he will be appearing in Witbank Magistrate’s Court again after it that was postponed to Friday, September 13 as the case could not continue due to a power failure on Monday.
