Music creative workshop gives budding artists a musical chance

Two artists who have benefitted from this initiative are Phumla Music and Mlingani Soulchild who hail from Barberton and Nkomazi respectively

The Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation continue to empower budding artists in the province through various initiatives.

One such initiative is the Music Creatives Workshop, which is held in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and Redamancy Lifestyle and Entertainment who provides a platform where established artists mentor up-and-coming artists.

The workshop will take place in November at Mbombela Stadium.

“As a build up to the main event, the organisers are currently on a provincial activation workshop, which kicked off at KaNyamazane Community Hall on July 31 and was followed by another workshop at Dwaarsloop Civic Centre on Wednesday, August 7. Herein, up-and-coming local artists were given an opportunity to learn more about the ins and outs of the music industry such as how to build a fan base and profile and also how to access institutions like the NYDA for assistance in getting business advice. Two artists who have benefitted from this initiative are Phumla Music and Mlingani Soulchild who hail from Barberton and Nkomazi respectively. Phumla who has received studio equipment to the value of R50 000 and a voucher for a music video from the City of Mbombela advised artists to be cautious on how they use social media as its misuse can easily tarnish one’s brand, whilst Soulchild urged them to align themselves with people who share their vision. Both artists are beneficiaries of the 2018 workshop and have recorded tracks with the popular DJ Ganyani, which should be out just in time for the festive season,” said Teddy Ndlazi.

This year’s Music Creatives Workshop attendees will be mentored by DJ Zoe, DJ Tira, Zwai Bala and Slikour and it is scheduled for November 27 till 29 at Mbombela Stadium.
