Computer Applications Olympiad: 1st place for St Thomas

Considering that more than 5500 learners participated in the First Round of the competition this year, to be placed first in the province is a remarkable accomplishment

A St Thomas Aquinas School matriculant, Samukelisiwe Mpembe, tied for first place in Mpumalanga in the 2019 Computer Applications Olympiad.

The olympiad (otherwise known as the IITPSA Computer Olympiad) is a project of the Institute of IT Professionals South Africa.

It also is one of the oldest and largest competitions of its kind in the world and has been held since 1984.

Considering that more than 5500 learners participated in the First Round of the competition this year, to be placed first in the province is a remarkable accomplishment.

St Thomas Aquinas School congratulated Samukelisiwe and High School CAT and IT Educator, Mrs Sarah-Jane Visagie, on this wonderful achievement.

The school also recognized the following Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners who scored in the top 7%, 11% and 50% out of all the entries, respectively: Siyabulela Mthimunye, Zinhle Mhlope, Regan de Villiers, Khanyisile Nhlapo, Kgosi Sigudu, Sicelo Ndlovu, Tafara Hwata, Neliswa Jones, Nonkululeko Maseko, Melissa Ncube, Lusanda Gowa, Simphiwe Mthembu, Kagiso Ncongwane, Njabulo Mthimkhulu, Sihle Ncongwane, Boitumelo Magwaza, Zano Malele, Gomolemo Mnisi, Ntokozo Mokone, Hlogi Nkadimeng, Mandla Nkosi, Nduduzo Sibiya, Lindiwe Mkwanazi, Nelisiwe Simelane, Ntando Msimango, Malibongwe Sibanyoni, Linda Mtswene, Njabulo Mhaule, Panashe Chesa, Sphiwe Mabena, Asanda Mahlangu, Surprise Kenny, Musa Lentsoane and Melgan Mojalefa.
