Man takes matters in his own hands

The suspects were allegedly involved in a business robbery, hijacking and murder that claimed the man’s relative’s life

Rage and anger should not get in the way of our future or make us act outrageously towards painful situations.

A man was recently arrested for allegedly fatally shooting two suspects.

The suspects were allegedly involved in a business robbery, hijacking and murder that claimed the man’s relative’s life.

The shooting took place in Ogies on Thursday, August 15, where it is believed that the suspects of the business robbery had stopped because of mechanical issues with their vehicle.

The business robbery, along with a hijacking and murder, were reported to have happened on Thursday, August 1 at 09:30 in Thusi Village in Ermelo.

The man suspected of the murder of the suspects was related to the owner whose business was targeted, and who later died in hospital.

The Cluster Commander of Witbank Cluster, Major-General Wilson Kekana released a media statement on Thursday, August 15, stating that earlier on the same day, Ermelo SAPS received information regarding the two suspects and that they were planning to commit another business robbery in Carolina.

An unknown source also informed the family of the previously deceased of the planned business robbery in Carolina.

Four of the family members decided to drive to Carolina.

“The suspects’ vehicle, a white 3 series BMW, however picked up mechanical problems and had to stop in the business area of Ogies to repair a damaged wheel. Meanwhile the detectives of Ermelo received information about the whereabouts of the two suspects and made their way to Ogies to arrest the suspects. The family, however, arrived in Ogies before the police and drove around looking for the suspects’ BMW,” states the General.

He further states that the family saw the suspects’ BMW vehicle in the Ogies business area and stopped next to it.

One male of the family got out of the family’s black Audi, drew his pistol and started shooting at both suspects.”

One of the suspects was fatally wounded on the scene though he continued, following behind the second suspect who was running away.

The man shot randomly within the area whilst several community members ran for cover.

The second suspect was also shot by the man 500 metres away from where they had started running.

The man went back to the family’s car and they left the scene.

The police arrived minutes after the shooting and found the two bodies lying in the street.

The shooter handed himself over at Ogies Police Station accompanied by his attorney on Monday, August 19.

He appeared in Ogies Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 20.

The case was postponed for seven days, therefore he will appear before the magistrate again on Tuesday, August 27.

He will stand trial for the two murders.

The police forensic services recovered one pistol inside the BMW vehicle which will be sent for ballistics testing to determine if it was used in the murder case in Ermelo or any other crimes.

General Kekana requested that the community not take the law into their own hands, but allow the police to do their work and ensure that criminals are dealt with in accordance with the South African Law.
