No visitor will knock at your door after midnight

The past week four house robberies were reported to Witbank Police Station

House robberies are taking its toll on the residents of eMalahleni as more and more armed robberies are taking place.

The past week four house robberies were reported to Witbank Police Station.

In one of the incidents that occurred on June 29 a lady was alone at home when she was woken up by a knock on her front door.

“I immediately knew it was not someone I know, so I did not even try to unlock the door. It was when I heard a big bang at my back door that I knew they are busy breaking into my house,” said the victim Mrs Renda Molepo.

She further stated that, “the main reason for the knock at the front door is to take my attention from the kitchen door. They overpowered me and pointed me with a firearm demanding valuables but I was so shocked I froze.”

The two robbers allegedly then started taking her belongings and eventually fled the scene.

On June 30 another incident happened in Duvha Park when five suspects allegedly forced themselves into a man’s residence in the early hours.

It is believed that the robbers forced the victim into the bathroom, covering his head with a jacket and threatened him with a weapon to keep quite and lay still.

They took all the valuables in the house and got away on foot. About an hour after this incident another house were targeted by two suspects that broke into the garage of a resident in Tasbet Park.

“I woke up with weird noises coming from outside. As I stood up and looked through the window, I looked into an unknown man starring at me while he was holding a weapon in his hands. I did not panic as my wife got the chance to press the alarm’s panic button. Luckily they fled the scene without harming anyone or taking anything,” Mr Juanré Horn said.

“Residents must stay vigilant and report suspicious vehicles or persons in the residential areas to local authorities. Be your neighbour’s ‘gatekeeper’, take down crucial information when witnessing a crime and report it immediately. Crime is here to stay, we need to unite and work together to keep each other safe,” Operations Co-ordinator, Maureen Scheepers from South African Community Crime Watch concluded.
