Monday morning Toyota-heist

Unfortunately, it seems that eMalahleni’s criminals also have a taste for Toyota.

A report compiled by CTrack in 2017 found that Toyota is the most stolen or hijacked sports utility vehicle (SUV) brand in South Africa, making up 55% of all SUVs that are stolen or hijacked.

This same study found that the three most commonly stolen or hijacked cars were the Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Fortuner and the Toyota Hilux.

Unfortunately, it seems that eMalahleni’s criminals also have a taste for Toyota.

On July 1, at about 08:00, two brothers reported to work at the car dealership where they are employed.

Both brothers were sitting in the car dealership’s office, when suddenly one of the brothers started screaming and motioning to his sibling.

It is at this point that his sibling felt the cool lip of a gun against his head.

The man holding the gun against his head demanded both brothers’ cellphones and wallets.

The brothers were then kicked and pushed to the floor, all whilst still staring down the barrel of a gun, and searched.

The thugs took both of their cellphones, one of the brothers’ wristwatches and all of the keys belonging to the facility, including the key box containing all of the cars’ keys.

The criminals, now all together and numbering a total of five, then locked the brothers inside of the office and proceeded to help themselves to three cars.

The criminals got away with two Toyota Fortuners with registration numbers HGR 691 MP and FX 83 XP GP, a Toyota Hilux with registration number CF 26 SL GP and a Nissan X-Trail with registration number DK 17 BK GP .

A case was opened with Witbank SAPS, but no suspects have been identified at the time of going to print.
