Maditla to stay behind bars until trial

She faces four counts of premeditated murder

Zinhle Maditla’s bail application was unsuccessful.

The mother of four, who stands accused of killing her children Minenhle (8), Blessing (6), Shanique (4) and Ettiene (11 months) appeared in Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 24.

Magistrate Mdumiseni Mavuso said Maditla failed to present evidence to show that exceptional circumstances existed that it was in the interest of justice for the court to grant her bail.

Mavuso said it is on record that Maditla is related to state witnesses, who include her mother.

The court can therefore not guarantee that they will not discuss the merits of this case if she is released on bail.

A psychiatric assessment report that was presented to court in April, revealed that Maditla was fit to stand trial.

She will stand trial for the murders from September 9 to September 13.

She faces four counts of premeditated murder.

Maditla burst out in sobbing cries when Mavuso refused her bail.

Mr Kevin Balance, the four children’s grandfather said Maditla needs her family now more than ever.

“She is only human, she needs us now and we will not let go of her hands. We are family and we are united,” he said.

Maditla was arrested on December 30 last year after she handed herself over to the Vosman police station.

This was shortly after the decomposed bodies of her four children were found in her rented room.
