Shooting on Zeekoewater Plots leaves community riled up

A witness on the scene of the incident had stated that shots had been fired after a row regarding a fire across the river started

At approximately 15:00 it was reported that a shooting had occurred on the Zeekoewater Plots near a river where a group of boys had allegedly been fishing.

A witness on the scene of the incident had stated that shots had been fired after a row regarding a fire across the river started.

It seems the dispute erupted between the group of boys, who belonged to a community who had settled near the ground on which the river was located and whom the landowner had allowed to fish there, and residents of the area who were believed to be upset about a fire which they believed the boys had started in an adjacent veld.

One of the residents of the area, whilst arguing with the group of boys who had gone fishing, was allegedly approached by a relative of one of the boys in such a manner that he believed his life to be in danger, and discharged a shot.

The man who was shot was rushed from the scene by Legacy Emergency Specialists to receive medical attention.

The upset community members swarmed to the scene of the incident.

The man who discharged the shot was immediately arrested by Witbank SAPS at the scene of the incident.

The South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW) and Witbank SAPS also attended the scene.

The WITBANK NEWS were also forced to leave the scene after police grew concerned for the journalist’s safety amidst the growing tension between law enforcement, the residents of the area and community members.
