Tshepo takes the living standard of his peers higher

He helps disadvantaged students with food parcels, sanitary towels for girls, stationery and to apply for bursaries

24-year-old Tshepo Mahlangu is helping his peers at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) eMalahleni campus to rebuild their lives.

He has started a project called ‘Rebuild Your Life’ at the campus, whereby he seeks help for funding on behalf of students who are struggling financially.

“I saw that most students do not have bursaries to fund them for academics and/or money to get simple basic needs, that is when I started the project last year (2018) end of February,” Tshepo said.

He helps disadvantaged students with food parcels, sanitary towels for girls, stationery and to apply for bursaries.

His process of acquiring funds or sponsors for students is simple.

“Students just need to provide their proof of registration and identity document to prove that they are not funded. I then seek sponsors for them for whatever they are in need of, whether it is food, bursaries or study materials,” he explained.

He said that he targets local businesses and mining companies to seek sponsorship for the students.

Some of his beneficiaries such as Troy Mokoena and Nokuphila Shwala, who are both TUT students said that Tshepo has been helping them since he started the project.

“He has helped us to get study materials and food parcels, since last year,” said Troy.

Nokuphila added that they want to help him grow his project and to get more sponsors for more beneficiaries.

Tshepo highlighted that he would like to build his project further and also help people outside the campus.

“I would also like to see my project progressing forward and I also like to help disadvantaged people and orphans in the community.”
