Another two arrests related to alleged plasma syndicates
The chase endured into Mandela Street, where the official fired off two warning shots
Responding to a callout in Middel Street, Model Park the security official from CSC Tactical did not expect to apprehend two alleged members of a syndicate after a high speed chase.
At around 13:00 on May 7, the CSC official was called out to an alarm going off in the aforementioned street.
Upon arrival, the official saw a white Mercedes Benz reversing out of the yard of the given address, and for a moment thought it could be the owner of the house.
“It was only when I spotted an old man running down the street screaming ‘skelms, skelms,’ that I realized that that vehicle must have robbers inside of it. I immediately started chasing after the suspected robbers,” the CSC security official said.
The chase endured into Mandela Street, where the official fired off two warning shots.
“After the warning shots were fired the suspects drove at high speed into the oncoming traffic and consequently caused an accident,” owner of CSC Tactical, Mr Piet Cromhout added.
The alleged robbers lost control over the vehicle due to speeding and collided with three vehicles travelling in Paul Sauer Street.
The security official then managed to apprehend two of the four suspects.
Police were dispatched to the scene to make the arrests, and called out the K9 and Mounted Units to search for the remaining two suspects that fled the scene into a nearby field.
Two plasma televisions, a laptop and a safe with an undisclosed amount of money were recovered.
Langamed Ambulance Services assisted with medical care.
General Wilson Kekane concluded with a huge thanks to CSC Tactical for their fast and effective response, and to the public who assisted afterwards with searching for the two suspects who remain on the run.
While the crime scene was still active, it came under police attention that a member of the public took a video of the suspects and posted it onto social media.
“This video that went viral is hampering the investigation and the identification parade. It is illegal to share footage showing the suspects’ identity before the matter has been brought before the court, and doing so may affect the permissibility of evidence. We will arrest the person responsible for the footage for obstructing justice,” spokesperson of Witbank Police Station, Cpt Eddie Hall, stated.
