FOLLOW UP – Warning to members of the public and community policing groups

The criminal procedure act clearly stipulates that such offenders can and will be arrested for the obstruction of justice.

The Cluster Commander of Witbank SAPS Major General Kekana has expressed his concern that members of the public are taken photos or making videos on crime scenes and distributing it on media platforms.

The criminal procedure act clearly stipulates that such offenders can and will be arrested for the obstruction of justice.

General Kekana said, “that only the South African Police Service are allowed under the Police act to distribute or publish photos or videos of arrested or wanted suspects.”

General Kekana appealed to the community to report such offenders to the Police and to continue to support the Police in the fight against crime through implementing the principles of community policing.
