Man murdered at his home in Balalaika Street

It is suspected that the suspects gained entrance to the workshop through the window

A case of murder is being investigated by Witbank Police after a life was claimed in a horrific way.

In the early hours of Thursday, April 11 around 03:30 the Tasbet Park neighbourhood was woken by gunshots, after an incident in Balalaika Street.

According to Sgt David Ratau, media spokesperson of Witbank Police the deceased, Mr Kenneth Gwebu heard a noise in his workshop and went to check.

“As he entered his workshop, he saw suspects inside and shouted to his brother to help. As his brother, Eric came out he saw Kenneth chasing someone. There was apparently a guy on the fence and one on his way to the same fence, chased by Kenneth. Eric heard a shot but did not know his brother was hit,” said Sgt Ratau.

It is further stated that Kenneth put his arm around Eric, collapsing on the spot and only then did Eric realised what happened.

It is suspected that the suspects gained entrance to the workshop through the window.

Ms Ria Nel, resident of the area said that they received a mayday call on the Community Policing Forum (CPF) radio, as her husband is on radio control.

“We just heard that something happened in Balalaika Street and we immediately asked for backup. CPF responders then set out to the area.”

Ms Madelon Troskie from the CPF stated that the call came through and Langamed Emergency Management was dispatched to the scene and Kenneth was declared dead on scene.
