(FOLLOW UP ARTICLE) – DNA confirmed it was Maree’s body in cornfield

The human remains were sent as for DNA testing to confirm whether they belonged to Maree

A year has passed since the gruesome murder where the body of a woman was found in a cornfield.

The results of the DNA tests can now confirm that the body was indeed that of Ms Alta Maree (64) who went missing on February 19, 2018 from her home in Clewer where she stayed for years.

Upon her disappearance last year, a missing person’s case was opened but was changed to a murder investigation after remains were found in a shallow grave next to the R555 between Clewer and Ogies.

The human remains were sent as for DNA testing to confirm whether they belonged to Maree.

Shortly after the body was found, two suspects were arrested.

“We have arrested two suspects regarding this gruesome discovery but the investigation is still going on,” said Col One Thobejane from Vosman Police Station at the time.

One of the suspects, Dennis Sipho Motubatse briefly appeared in court on March 20, 2018 but the case was postponed until March 27, 2018 where bail of R500 was granted.

The case was then postponed again due to DNA results that were not available.

Motubatse never pitched up for another court hearing.

“We as police are asking the public to assist us with any information that will help us find this suspect regarding this case,” Cst Kgomotso Maluleke added.

If anyone has any information of Motubatse’s whereabouts, please contact Sgt Connie Prinsloo on 084 589 1128 or Stefan Breytenbach on 064 985 9796.
