TUT hosts friends and partner’s meeting

They make use of the Life Orientation classes at the schools and conduct educational talks

Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) eMalahleni campus invited various businesses, partners and friends of the local campus to explore ways on how to improve student extra-curricular activities and participation.

The meeting was facilitated by TUT eMalahleni campus Sports and Recreation manager, Mr Enock Mudau on Thursday, March 28 at the campus.

Mr Mudau highlighted that some of the challenges the campus has, is the lack of recreational facilities, budget and maintenance of the facilities. He said that a strategy to tackle the challenges is to partner with local businesses.

Mr Mudau said that TUT has produced local sports participation, campus sports events where businesses can market their brand to students and staff, and recreational events where local residents can participate in.

He added that local residents can participate in the golf day and the TUT Nkangala Cross Country they host once every year to raise funds and to get people to partner with the campus.

Mr Ashley Gomba, Student Governance and Leadership Development (SGLD) assistant practitioner said that they are senior students and also known as Top Seniors in the campus that adopted high schools around eMalahleni.

They make use of the Life Orientation classes at the schools and conduct educational talks.

They also host fundraising events to organise educational trips for the children.

The Top Seniors also do fundraisings to donate to the community.

Senior SGLD practitioner Mr Dennis Malanga, highlighted that students also need to be active at the residences they reside in.

He urged student residences to work together and also invite the community to participate.

Management personnel from Mabaleng, Khayalethu and Corridor Hill student residences, representatives from Vodacom and Old Mutual, Witbank News and eMalahleni FM were invited to the meeting as friends and partners.
