Robbers at home at home affairs

The three armed men then allegedly took the guard’s active tracker, radio and the guard’s two cellphones before leading him out of the guard room

The Department of Home Affairs was rocked by the robbery of its in-house safe last week.

On March 7, just after 23:00 that night, a security guard on duty in the guardroom at home affairs, was allegedly approached by three unknown men.

It is reported that the guard immediately noticed that all three men were armed, but that they threatened him with their pistols before he had any time to react.

The three armed men then allegedly took the guard’s active tracker, radio and the guard’s two cellphones before leading him out of the guard room with a gun’s muzzle against his back.

As they excited the guardroom, the three armed men and the guard allegedly came across the guard’s partner in the middle of one of his routine patrols.

The three men consequently made the guard’s partner aware of their presence and managed to also subdue him.

With two security guards already under lock and key; the three armed men continued to search for the remaining two security guards on duty that night.

Once the armed men had rounded up all four security guards, they allegedly tied them up with their shoelaces and locked them in the back room.

The four security guards recount hearing a loud ‘bang’ coming from the central part of the department of home affairs, where after the three armed men reappeared and untied the security guards, before hastily disappearing into the night.

After being untied, the security guards immediately alerted Witbank SAPS of the robbery.

Witbank SAPS was there within minutes and upon entering the building found that the safe inside of the Department of Home Affairs had been bombed.
