Every year some parents in eMalahleni encounter problems finding space for their children in the different schools.
This has been going on for a number of years and it seems there is no cure to prevent the problem.
It took parents and their children to demonstrate at the circuit offices to voice their frustrations on Wednesday, January 16.
The parents said they are tired of being sent from pillar to post by officials from the Department of Education.
Some of them said they applied in June and in September last year and they were promised that their children will be enrolled in the different schools in the city but came opening day, they were turned back.
“I was told that my child has been accepted and went ahead and bought a uniform and stationery only to be told that my application forms are missing. We have recently moved to Siyanqoba but there’s not a single school in that area, all the nearby schools are full, where should our children go to?” asked a parent.
The parents said the Department of Education is failing to plan for the future of their children.
They say in Siyanqoba a school is needed in the area because some of the children were enrolled at schools in the locations and KwaGuqa Extensions and other areas.
The parents were told that they must leave their contact numbers and that of their children so that they will be attended at the district offices the following day.
The promise was kept because the parents confirmed that their children have found spaces in the different schools.
