Fireworks were a big debate last year, but this year strict rules will apply.

As fireworks pose a big danger for animals, New Year and Christmas are slowly approaching.

The Emalahleni Local Municipality have strict rules in place for this year.

Only the legal permit holders may sell fireworks and there are areas where fireworks may be discharged.

These include: Lynville Tennis court, Sy Mthimunye Stadium (next to stadium), Tsietsi play ground, Lekazi play ground, Extension 5 soccer field next to loveLife, Klipfontein Dam, Phola soccer field at Mthimunye Street, Ogies soccer field next to council chamber, Thubelihle soccer field, Ga-Nala rugby field, Extension 14 and Extension 11 open space, Pine Ridge soccer stadium, Warehouse Pap and Grill and Rietspruit open space next to thehall.

Mr Kingdom Mabuza, municipal spokesperson said:

“The burning of fireworks will only be allowed on December 24 and December 31. The burning of fireworks, except on abovementioned dates are not allowed and anyone who do not comply will be prosecuted.”

He added that children under 16 years are prohibited to use fireworks and all pets should be locked in a safe place.

Another safety tip is that music can be switched on high during the discharging of fireworks. Fireworks should be discharged under supervision.
