December sees an increase in all types of crime as criminals scurry to collect funds to support their own Christmas dreams.

On Tuesday, December 4, Porto in Watermeyer Street in Klipfontein fell victim to one of this week’s business robberies.

At just before 18:00, Porto’s shop manager and owner were seated at a table, chatting and discussing the day’s events, when an unknown male entered the shop.

He immediately lifted the black and silver pistol which he had brought in with him and told the manager and owner to keep quiet. The unknown man and his accomplices then told both of them to go to the back of the shop; and due to being held at gunpoint, they complied.

One of the suspects then asked for the safe keys, but neither the manager nor the owner could give the aforementioned keys to him because the safe keys are not kept on the business premises.

The unknown men then looked in the business’s storeroom, but also found it to be devoid of anything to steal.

By this point the criminals were growing agitated, they continued to demand the safe keys – even striking the female shop manager with the pistol in an attempt to get her to divulge the location of the safe keys.

Eventually this band of bandits gave up and fled the scene, taking the shop manager’s iPhone and watch with them.

This treacherous trio didn’t get to spend their Christmas plunder though, they had hardly left the shop before the law caught up with them.

One of the men was apprehended by the SACCW’s responders, the second was apprehended by Thomas and Raymond Nel from DRS Towing. The very next day, after the commission of the crime, the third and final suspect was apprehended and arrested by Witbank SAPS.
