Some strong allegations of corruption at Thanduxolo Special School have surfaced.

Some teachers of Thanduxolo Special School are alleging that they have experienced some corruption at the school.

They alleged that during short listing, unions were not represented (the unions being Peu, Sadtu, Naptosa and Nehawu).

They further say that interviews that were allegedly conducted on July 13 this year and some of the candidates considered for the positions was a wife to one of the HOD’s, one is a sister to the principal and another one is family of a teacher.

Both the principal and one of the HOD’s were part of the panel conducting the interviews.

It is also alleged that two foreigners working at the school earn more from the SGB and yet they allegedly do not have permits to be in the country.

According to teachers a swimming pool was apparently donated to the school but ever since it was built it has never been used.

Other allegations are that educators at the school are not motivated but are demoralised.

Five educators were secretly chosen to attend a workshop and functions without circulars being issued to all staff members.

It is also alleged that every year during November and December there are break-ins at the school, with computers being stolen, workshop machines stolen, but the cases are reported and without any arrests even if there is evidence and no follow ups are done.

On October 31 this year laptops were allegedly stolen and four thousand rand (R4 000) in cash was also stolen from the school.

It is further alleged that the signatory of finance was previously elected in the SGB and this year he was not elected and yet he still signs cheques for the school.

*A questionnaire was sent to the Mpumalanga Department of Education

Media Liaison Officer Mr Gerald Sambo on Wednesday, November 21 but there was no response to it.

*The school was sent a copy of the allegations but no response was received.
