The festive season is one of the busiest times of the year on South African roads, including the N4 Toll Route.
With thousands of motorists expected to travel between Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Mozambique between December 2018 and January 2019, Trans African Concessions (TRAC) has ensured that this national road is geared up to accommodate high traffic volumes.
Traffic on the N4 Toll Route is expected to peak on the 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd of December and again on the 1st, 6th and 7th of January.
On these days, as well as throughout the festive season, TRAC’s roadside assistance units, patrol teams and the TRAC 24-hour Helpdesk will be on full alert in both South Africa and Mozambique in a bid to keep the road as safe as possible and promptly attend to accidents, incidents and emergencies.
On peak traffic days our response units, together with emergency services such as the SAPS, paramedics, Fire and Rescue and Provincial Traffic, will be deployed to strategic points along the route – namely Bronkhorstspruit, Middelburg, Milly’s, Mbombela (Nelspruit) and Matola Weighbridge (Mozambique) – to enhance incident/accident support.

Heavy traffic is again expected en route to the Lebombo Border Post in Komatipoort and therefore TRAC will again work closely with the Lebombo Border Control Operational Coordinating Committee (BCOCC) and Ressano Garcia Border officials to assist with traffic management measures.
TRAC will assist through the provision of several logistical requirements and with the distribution of traffic control information flyers to motorists. Road users travelling between South Africa and Mozambique are advised that the Lebombo and Ressano Garcia Border Posts will be operational 24 hours from 13 December to 8 January.
All construction on the N4 Toll Route will be on hold during the construction sector’s annual leave period, which is scheduled from 14 December 2018 to 06 January 2019. Lane closures in Section 2D and 2E in Bronkhorstspruit will be removed, while the Stop/Go’s on Schoemanskloof and Section 16 (between Ressano Garcia and Moamba Plaza) in Mozambique will be lifted during this period.
To enhance safety and regulate traffic flow, line markings and other infrastructural and road safety elements will be put in place at some of these sections.
