You can’t stab your way out of problems

Two suspects have been arrested this past week after they stabbed innocent victims.

On Sunday, November 18 an old man was stabbed by a young male. Members from ER24 quickly made their way over to the scene where they attended to the man’s injuries.

The man’s injuries weren’t serious and he is just fine now. Out of fear that the suspect will return to hurt him, the man didn’t open a case at the police station.

However it wasn’t long before this same suspect got himself into trouble and was eventually arrested.

On Tuesday, November 20 a woman called in on the SACCW (South African Community Crime Watch) open channel on Zello. She explained that there is an unknown man in her yard in Montgomery Street.

Response members from the SACCW were dispatched to the scene along with Maureen Scheepers, SACCW Operations Coordinator.

“Upon arrival on the scene I recognized the suspect as the same man that stabbed the old man on Sunday,” Scheepers explained.

Scheepers then alerted the Witbank Police and they came to the scene and successfully arrested the suspect.

Another stabbing incident occurred on Friday, November 23 at the River Crescent Shopping Centre.

A security guard was on duty that night when he noticed two men drinking on the building premises. He politely asked them to rather go to either Brazen or U-Turn where they can drink. The men didn’t listen to the security guard and continued drinking. Allegedly the security guard asked them to leave the premises as second time.

“The suspect broke his beer bottle and had a piece of the broken bottle in his hand,” explained Maureen Scheepers, Operations Coordinator at the SACCW.

“When the security guard noticed that the man was going to stab him, he started to run away,” Scheepers continued.

As the security guard ran, the suspect followed him and stabbed him in the back, neck and shoulders with the broken bottle.

Members from the SACCW were in the area patrolling along with SAPS when the call came through about the stabbing.

They immediately went to the scene and Maureen Scheepers dispatched Legacy Emergency Specialists to assist the security guard.

Allegedly the suspect tried to run away and was spotted near Pet and Pool.

He was brought back to the scene where the stabbing occurred and he was arrested. The security guard was taken to hospital and treated further.
