The principal of Witbank High School, Mr Oskin Usinga along with all staff and learners welcomed the MEC of Education, Mr Sibusiso Malaza with open arms.

He and his entourage visited the school bright and early on Thursday morning, November 22. This was part of the MEC’s visits around Mpumalanga.

“We want to award the teachers. We want to ensure their security and we know the demands of the schools. We are also aware of the history, where this school was and where we are now. We want to salute the teachers for their hard work, and what the principal have done for this school,” said the head of the Student Governing Body.

They decided to visit this school, motivate the teachers and learners, especially matriculants who have already started with exams.

“We decided to speak to the educators, as they are the heart of the school. As you walk in here, you can tell this school is well managed, clean and the outside tells you a lot about what happens on the inside. We want to remind the educators how important you are. How much we appreciate you as the community expects much on you. I know, as well as the principal that you will not fail the community, students and parents. As a child leaves their house in the morning, it becomes your responsibility to educate, teach and instill values. We appreciate each teacher going the extra mile,” Mr Malaza educated.

He spoke a bit about his high school in Badplaas, and said how only five out of a class of 84 pupils passed in Grade 12.

“We don’t want car guards walking out of this school. We want learners with prosperous futures. The society has hopes and aspirations for matriculants and educators have to somehow perform miracles. You work under difficult situations and we, appreciate you. Educators have to fasten their seatbelts, because the society expects much. We will not fail our people,” he added.


The MEC handing out examination papers to the learners on Thursday morning.

He spoke to the matriculants and motivated them, saying that there are high hopes for this school.

“We are aiming for a pass rate of 100%, let’s see how close we can get to achieving this.

The principal extended his gratitude for the visit and said that the school is honored to have such a special visitor at Witbank High School.
