Man out on bail, back in court next year

A man who will appear in Court A only next year, is facing six charges against him.

A man who will appear in Court A only next year, is facing six charges against him.

The suspect appeared before the Magistrate on Tuesday, November 20 and the case is postponed for trial, 4-7 February next year.

The man was arrested earlier this year after he intimidated foreigners and posed as a police official.

Mr Francois Brandt, state prosecutor said on Tuesday that the accused is facing three counts of fraud and or theft, one of kidnapping and two of pretending to be a police official. Nine state witnesses will testify against him.

Although his previous attempts of getting out on bail failed, he managed to cough up R1 000 which he paid on November 19.

The incidents which he is going to stand trial for happened in July this year and he was apprehended by members of the Witbank Police as well as members from the SACCW (South African Community Crime Watch).

The accused pretended to be a police official, asking foreigners for their asylum papers and passports, as well as intimidating them.
