Armed men busy in Tasbet Park

“I was so strong. I did not shiver and I did what they wanted,” Ms Bulelwa Yona said

A victim of a house robbery told of the horrifying ordeal:

“I was so strong. I did not shiver and I did what they wanted,” Ms Bulelwa Yona said.

On Wednesday morning, October 17, Yona heard a strange noise outside and went to check it out.

“I went to my back window and saw nothing. I then went back to bed. I heard a noise again and went to my front window where I saw a man by the window. I shouted: ‘Voertsek! Voertsek!’. I went to the front door, opened it and shouted again. I saw them running away and shouted to my neighbour for help,” Yona said.

She added that by this time she had closed her door and was looking for her phone to call for help.

During this time the suspects broke down her door to gain entry to her house. One of the suspects pointed a gun in her direction and asked for her phone and a laptop.

“They did not run away as it seemed. They just hid and came back. They just went with my phone,” Yona continued.

She added that it was not the first time that suspects were at her house, and that six houses in the street have been broken into in the past few months.

“Everyone I have spoken to have described the same suspects; one short man and one tall man. They have stolen televisions from many people in my street. I am just happy that they did not hurt me. I was not scared of them. I stood strong against them,” Yona concluded.
