Cable theft is on the rise, yet again.

Cable theft is on the rise, yet again.

This means that residents of Jackaroo Park and Blancheville will not have power, as the backup power supply have been stolen and thieves are now busy with the main power supply.

Mr Kingdom Mabuza, municipal spokesperson for the Emalahleni Local Municipality said that they have installed pepper spray and alarm systems to discourage cable theft.

Cable theft is on the increase.

“We are increasing the number of guards patrolling some of the worse affected areas. We are depending on community members to report to the police when they see people behaving suspiciously. Cable theft costs the municipality millions, and unless it is drastically reduced or totally dealt with, funds which are supposed to be going to other projects get diverted to buying new cables. Cable theft is everybody’s problem and we should all stand up and raise our voices against those who steal cables and sell them to scrap yards,” Mabuza concluded.
