Community fights back

It's safe to say that all residents are tired of the high crime rates, and for a community in Duvha Park Extension 2 this was proven over the weekend.

It’s safe to say that all residents are tired of the high crime rates, and for a community in Duvha Park Extension 2 this was proven over the weekend.

On Friday, September 21, a resident arrived home to find that his house had been broken into and most electronic devices were stolen. He contacted the newly established neighbourhood watch group for assistance, the SACCW (South African Community Crime Watch) attended to the scene and dispatched the police.

On further investigation it was found that three males with a white Pajero were believed to be the culprits after viewing CCTV footage from a neighbour’s house. A case of house break in was opened.

SACCW fights all crime

The following day, a vigilant neighbour, Nomsa Luvuno spotted the white Pajero in the area again. Nomsa immediately alerted the community and SACCW operations co-ordinator, Maureen Scheepers.

Without hesitation the community came together and started following the Pajero. A chase involving the community, SACCW responders and the police ensued to the N12 highway where eventually the SAPS managed to pull over the Pajero. Three suspects were arrested and the vehicle was filled to the brim with suspected stolen goods.
