eMalahleni Spar, which is located just off of the Eadie offramp, was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and three cellphones which belonged to employees.

On Saturday, September 15 at approximately 17:00 an old pick-up truck rolled up into eMalahleni Spar’s parking lot, and a group of men calmly exited it.

Security stood guard whilst the SAPS questioned witnesses and examined the crime scene, which was now “taped off” in order to keep the public out.

One of these men approached a cashier on duty with an empty plastic shopping bag. He demanded that she empty her till into this bag.
As the cashier looked around, she realised that the shop was filled with thugs.

An estimated seven men, one of which was armed with a revolver, were busy forcing the cashiers on duty to empty the contents of their tills into empty plastic bags.

The robber then attempted to force the cashier to empty the quick-pay till and the shop’s safe. The cashier did not know the code to unlock either of the aforementioned, and thus the thugs were not able to steal the cash out of either.

The seven men, having plundered Spar’s tills, left the shop in no particular hurry. Six of these men got back into the old pick-up truck and slowly drove off, while the seventh man disappeared into the shadows behind the shop.

Spar Tops, a liquor shop located directly next to eMalahleni Spar, suffered the same fate during the robbery at eMalahleni Spar; also losing an undisclosed amount of cash at the hands of these evil-doers.

The SACCW, police and security were on the scene within moments of the incident.
