No bail for man pretending to be police official

A man is still in custody, after numerous cases were opened against him.

A man is still in custody, after numerous cases were opened against him.

He pretended to be a police official, when he was caught by the police and members of the SACCW (South African Community Crime Watch) early in July.

He was arrested and in custody until his first court appearance on Monday, July 9.

He then appeared in court again on Thursday, August 2 for his formal bail application which he was denied and is currently still in custody.

He will remain in custody until his next appearance on September 5.

The suspect is facing two charges of fraud, one for kidnapping and one for theft. He allegedly also impersonated a police official when he was arrested.


The scene where the suspect was blocked in after he was followed for approximately an hour.

Ms Maureen Scheepers, operations coordinator of the SACCW said that they received complaints from foreigners who were targeted by the suspect.

“They said that the suspect asked for their passports and asylum papers, stating that he is from the police. The suspect intimidated the foreigners and with teamwork from the SACCW his whereabouts was established. He was followed by response members from the SACCW and the police was notified. He was blocked in and arrested by the Witbank Police.
