Emalahleni Local Municipality is topping the list of municipalities who are considered to be placed under administration.
The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) MEC, Speedy Mashilo confirmed this during the South African Local Government Association Mpumalanga Provincial Members Assembly that sat on August 2.
Emalahleni now owes Eskom R2-billion and it is inevitable that they will soon find themselves on Eskom’s disconnection list.

Emalahleni and four other municipalities in Mpumalanga currently owe Eskom a combined total of R4.4-billion. This is a R2-billion increase from December.
Mr James Masango Democratic Alliance spokesperson for CoGTA said this clearly shows a lack of political will, financial mismanagement and incapacity as a result of cadre employment.
